This past Thursday I had four visitors. A Cardinal pair and their three fledgling babies. They tried eating seed on their own but unfortunately they weren't very successful. I did manage to get a couple of shots of Dad feeding them but they didn't come out very well.
This baby looks comfortable sitting on this branch. I have noticed that the babies aren't as easily spooked as the parents. They didn't care if the dogs barked at them or if other birds landed near them.
This is a more recent photo. All three of them have started to exhibit a little more red in their feathers. At first I thought they were all female but now I'm not sure.
This baby kept trying to eat the black feeder hook. It tried quite a few times and then gave up. Only to return later and try again.

What a treat to see the young ones make their way into the world! Wonderful captures and don't you just love the lively chorus in the mornings!
ReplyDeleteI would have been happy just to see one but three was awesome. Yes, they do make a lovely sound in the morning. I feel very blessed to have seen these little ones. Happy Monday! :)
DeleteI love the tenderness in your posts, Cindy.
ReplyDeleteYour photographs are stunning...always stunning, and the love that you have for God's creatures shines through in each one of them.
I'm glad that you and Charlie and Annie are outside early in the morning. That is a beautiful time to observe the birds. The cardinals and the fledglings are so pretty; great close up shots of them, Cindy.
I think I see bird seed crumbs on the fledglings' little bill! How sweet these photos are...
Love,
Jackie
Thank you Jackie. I cherish my time with my babies in the morning and love being outside in the cool air. I get a lot of thinking done during this time. The birds are numerous in the morning and I look forward to seeing who visits. I hope your weekend was a great one.

Cindy
I am sure that in time these babies, too, will grow up and learn to take care of themselves.Seeing the young of the next bird generation is encouraging.
ReplyDeleteIt was a treat Ruth. I've often thought that I've seen young fledglings before but I was never sure. It was wonderful seeing the parents feed them, especially the Dad. So cute and sweet.
DeleteGreat photos! I don't think I've ever seen baby cardinals. What a treat to watch them grow and learn to be independent.
ReplyDeleteThanks Gail. I'm going to enjoy watching them. It's so sweet to see the Dad Cardinal feeding them. Happy Monday. :)
DeleteWonderful series. We've got a cardinal nest in a bush right outside our kitchen window...but they don't hang around long enough for me to get a shot. I'd guess there are some eggs or babies in that next in the bush because the other day we had a big crow on the birdcage who jumped down on the bush to peer into the branches. I scared the thing away, though.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lowell. Oh, lucky you. I have no idea where the nest is for my Cardinal pair. I'm use to the adult Cardinals hanging around but it was a real surprise and treat to see the young ones. I'm glad you were there to scare the crow away. Happy Monday!
